My Therapy Approach
Person Centred and Experiential therapy is an approach that really focuses on the relationship between the client
and the therapist. That essentially is where the magic happens! It means:
1
A commitment to genuineness in the therapy relationship; being a real person rather than a professional just playing a role. Sure, I can use therapy skills, but this is nothing unless I share my humanity with you.
2
A profound acceptance of the person I am with; meeting you as you are rather than as I (or you) may wish to be.
3
A willingness to actively gain as full and understanding of you as I possibly can; trying to see life and your experience through your eyes.
I take it as a given that it is ultimately you - not me - who can identify best what is problematic and what direction may need to be taken, even if this may not initially be at all clear to you. We have within ourselves the capacity to begin and continue healing and restorative processes, and these processes can best unfold within the secure, non-judging, understanding relationship that person-centred therapists are trained for and strive to participate in. This means helping your exploration at a pace and depth that is directed by you.

Together we will create a space and environment where you can feel safe to explore whatever brings you to see me, without judgment and being empathic and understanding. My aim is to help you navigate what is happening for you, help you feel safe to sit with your vulnerability and explore your feelings whilst using the therapy relationship to explore what this means for you. The process can be challenging, scary, exposing, enlightening, liberating and life saving, but helps you find a way through to make progress and make peace.

It is important to acknowledge that counselling and psychotherapy is for everyone. No matter what your background, circumstances, age, race, culture, gender identity, sex, sexuality, religion or belief or ability. I have supported people within gender services who are gender questioning, gender diverse, trans and non binary. I want you know that my practice is a safe space for you.
